Organist

When I found out about competition Out Of The Mist, dedicated to the mental illness, I decided to go to the Strėvininkai Social Care Home, which has been caring for people with mental illness for a hundred years.

I didn't know what to expect, whether I would even be able to find the hero of my story.

All my fears were shattered the moment I walked into the spacious room that used to be the chapel of the palace: it was full of sunshine and the sounds of Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata'. It was the most contrasting experience of my life.

At the piano was Jonas, a 64-year-old former concertmaster and organist who has been living in this care home for many years because of illness.

The music was softly flowing from the piano.

Some notes hit the walls and the high ceiling and came back to fall on the care home staff who were preparing for a local celebration.

Others flew straight into the ears of the young man sitting next to them, but it was hard to tell if he was hearing anything through his big headphones...
